Freedom in Worship Church (FIW), originally founded in February 2004 by Senior Pastor Emiliano (Lano) Patino and his wife Misty Patino, is a church without walls that provides spiritual refuge for individuals seeking restoration within the Christian Church and community at large. The church moved in 2006 to Unity Park located in the heart of Fort Worth's Emergency Shelter District off East Lancaster Avenue.
FIW's current membership consists of both non-homeless and homeless individuals who have a common bond through Jesus Christ. Those who are affiliated with the church understand the importance of caring for those who are most vulnerable within our society: the poor, the needy, and the destitute. Deuteronomy 15:11 says, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.” Jesus Christ reiterated this same teaching in his own ministry as documented in Mark 10:21 when he said, “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
FIW's presence in the East Lancaster area has helped bring countless individuals to Christ while simultaneously empowering them to pursue a second chance at life.
